Job Overview

The Control Room Operator II will be primarily responsible for monitoring and overseeing industrial processes from a centralized control room. This critical role is key to ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the company's energy facilities or industrial assets. Control room operators act as the eyes and ears of the process, and are the first line of response to any deviations or alarms.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Continuous Monitoring: Monitor control systems and operational data (SCADA, HMI) around the clock to ensure all parameters remain within specified standards.
  • Remote Operations: Execute routine and emergency start-up/shut-down procedures for equipment and processes from the control room in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Field Coordination: Act as the central communication link between the control room and field technicians/engineers, issuing permits and receiving reports.
  • Incident Response: Rapidly identify alarms and deviations from normal conditions, take immediate corrective actions following safety protocols, and notify supervisors.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate and clear logs of all operational events, performance readings, activities, and incidents in shift logs or digital systems.
  • Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all.
  • Basic Maintenance Support: Assist in directing routine and diagnostic maintenance work based on system readings.

Qualifications & Core Requirements

This position requires highly qualified candidates with the following practical experience:

  • Educational Qualification: A diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or equivalent) or an advanced technical certificate in a related field. Equivalent extensive practical experience may be considered.
  • Work Experience: Proven hands-on experience of at least 3 to 5 years in a similar role (Control Room Operator, Operations Technician) within sectors such as Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Power Plants, or Heavy Industrial Utilities.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong proficiency with process monitoring systems (e.g., SCADA, DCS, HMI).
    • Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and instrumental processes.
    • Ability to read and interpret Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and electrical schematics.
    • Good computer skills (Microsoft Office suite).
  • Personal Skills:
    • Exceptional focus and attention to detail for extended periods.
    • Quick and sound decision-making abilities under pressure.
    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
    • Ability to work effectively within a team and on a shift rotation schedule (which may include weekends and public holidays).
    • A strong attitude towards safety and quality.
