Electrical Design Engineer at Asyad Drydock

Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The Electrical Design Engineer will be placed within the engineering design department, responsible for a range of critical tasks supporting the drydock's repair, construction, and development operations. The core responsibilities expected for this role include:
- Designing and developing electrical systems for vessels and marine structures, including power generation, distribution, lighting, and control systems.
- Preparing detailed electrical drawings and schematics (Single Line Diagrams, Schematic Diagrams, Layout Drawings) using industry-standard computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Performing technical calculations related to cable sizing, circuit breaker ratings, and load analysis to ensure compliance with specifications and international standards (such as IEEE, IEC, and marine regulations).
- Working closely with other engineering teams (mechanical, structural) and the procurement team to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into projects.
- Reviewing and scrutinizing designs submitted by contractors or vendors to ensure quality and adherence to technical requirements.
- Providing technical support during the execution and installation phases at the drydock, troubleshooting any technical issues that arise.
- Updating and maintaining the technical archive of electrical documentation and drawings.
- Ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards in all designs and operations.
Qualifications and Requirements
To qualify for this opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of practical experience in electrical design, with a strong preference for experience in the marine, oil and gas, or heavy industrial sectors. Experience in shipbuilding or repair yards is a significant advantage.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar.
- In-depth knowledge of international standards and regulations governing marine and industrial electrical systems.
- Strong understanding of power generation and distribution systems, automation control systems (PLC), and alarm and protection systems.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Accuracy and attention to detail in preparing technical documentation.
- Ability to manage time and work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Other Requirements: Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential for handling international technical documentation and working within a diverse team.
