McDermott Middle East, a global leader in engineering and construction for offshore and onshore energy projects, is recruiting for the position of HUC (Hook-Up and Commissioning) Manager at its Qatar Branch in Doha. This role presents an exceptional leadership opportunity for seasoned professionals in the oil and gas industry to join a dynamic team working on major and impactful energy projects in the Gulf region.

Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The HUC Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and successful execution of the final hook-up, commissioning, and delivery phases of projects. The core responsibilities will center on:

  • Leadership & Planning: Lead and direct the entire HUC team, including planners, engineers, supervisors, and technicians. Develop and implement comprehensive, strategic HUC plans aligned with the project's overall objectives, schedule, and budget.
  • Safety & Quality Management: Ensure full compliance with the most stringent Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards, promoting a "Safety First" culture across all site operations. Oversee quality control to guarantee all hook-up and commissioning work meets or exceeds agreed specifications and requirements.
  • Coordination & Integration: Act as the primary interface between project management, engineering teams, subcontractors, and the project client regarding all HUC activities. Effectively coordinate with existing production operations to ensure seamless integration and safe start-up of new or modified facilities.
  • Budget & Schedule Control: Monitor and track costs associated with HUC activities, taking corrective actions to remain within the approved budget. Manage and continuously update detailed schedules, identifying and mitigating potential bottlenecks or delays.
  • Commissioning & Delivery: Oversee all phases of mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and functional performance testing, ensuring all required documentation (e.g., handover dossiers, completion certificates) is finalized. Lead the final project handover process to the client.

Qualifications and Essential Requirements

To be eligible for this leadership role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. A higher degree (Master's) or relevant professional certifications (e.g., PMP) would be a distinct advantage.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in the oil and gas sector, with a strong focus on managing HUC operations for major offshore and/or onshore projects. This experience must include a clear leadership role in a HUC Manager or similar senior project management capacity for a full project cycle.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of international oil and gas industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO, API). Strong command of project management principles, cost control, and scheduling. Comprehensive understanding of commissioning and start-up processes.
  • Leadership & Personal Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate large, multicultural teams in challenging work environments. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) in English; Arabic is a strong plus. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities under pressure. An unwavering commitment to safety and quality standards.

Work Location and Environment

The primary work base will be at McDermott's offices in Doha, Qatar, with frequent travel and site presence required at offshore or onshore project locations as per work demands. The company operates in a dynamic, fast-paced environment focused on innovation and operational excellence.
