Job Description
The Hydrocarbon Accounting Engineer will be responsible for the precise technical and technological aspects of measuring, tracking, and reporting quantities of oil, gas, and by-products across the value chain. Key Expected Responsibilities:
- Manage and execute hydrocarbon accounting processes: Including measurement, mass balance, and quantity tracking from the point of production to the point of delivery or sale.
- Ensure Accuracy and Compliance: Guarantee the accuracy of all data and documentation related to hydrocarbon production, transfer, and inventory, complying with local and international regulations and industry standards.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze measurement discrepancies, prepare regular performance reports, and provide insights for improving efficiency and reducing losses.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with operations, engineering, finance, and sales teams to ensure the integrity of hydrocarbon data.
- Utilize Specialized Software: Leverage hydrocarbon accounting systems and software (such as SAP PRA, Energy Components, or custom solutions) for data management.
- Procedure Review and Improvement: Contribute to the development and enhancement of hydrocarbon accounting procedures and policies.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
To be a successful candidate for this critical technical role, you should meet the following criteria:
Educational Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Petroleum, Mechanical) or a related field such as Petroleum Geology or Earth Sciences.
- Advanced degrees or specialized courses in oil and gas accounting or data management would be a strong plus.
Practical Experience:
- Proven work experience (typically a minimum of 3 to 5 years) in hydrocarbon accounting, oil & gas measurement, or production data management within the oil and gas sector.
- Experience working with field operators, transportation companies, or refineries.
- In-depth understanding of the hydrocarbon lifecycle and measurement systems (flow meters, sampling, equipment calibration).
Technical and Personal Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office software, especially Excel for complex analysis.
- Hands-on experience with one of the major hydrocarbon accounting software systems.
- Excellent analytical and investigative skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret contracts and commercial agreements related to the sale and transportation of oil and gas.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present clear technical reports.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
