Lead Engineer, Environmental - Oman Investment Authority

The Oman Investment Authority (OIA) is actively recruiting for a Lead Engineer, Environmental position at its headquarters in Muscat, Oman. Job Overview

The Lead Environmental Engineer will be responsible for leading and developing the strategic framework for environmental compliance and sustainable performance across the OIA's diverse portfolio of projects and investment assets. This position sits at the heart of Oman's commitment to Vision 2040 and the Sustainable Development Goals, making it a pivotal role in long-term strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes for new and existing projects, ensuring full compliance with Omani regulations and international standards.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee environmental management policies, procedures, and guidelines for all Authority operations.
  • Provide specialized technical advisory services to senior management and project operational teams regarding environmental risks and opportunities.
  • Design and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for environmental sustainability, preparing periodic reports for stakeholders.
  • Lead innovation initiatives in areas such as energy efficiency, waste management, water resource conservation, and carbon footprint reduction.
  • Ensure all contractors and partners adhere to the Authority's specified environmental standards.
  • Represent the Authority in local and international forums and committees related to environmental affairs.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering with an environmental focus, or a related field. A Master's degree will be a strong advantage.
  • A minimum of 8 to 10 years of practical experience in environmental management and sustainability, with a significant portion in leadership or advisory roles within major projects (industrial, infrastructure, energy, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental systems and legislation in the Sultanate of Oman, as well as international standards such as ISO 14001.
  • Excellent analytical and advisory skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Proven ability to lead change and influence stakeholders at various levels.
  • High-level communication and presentation skills (written and verbal) in both Arabic and English.
  • Recognized professional certifications (e.g., Certified Environmental Professional) will be advantageous.
