Job Overview
The Engineering Lead (Hydrographic) holds a pivotal role in planning, executing, and overseeing hydrographic and geophysical survey activities. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and feasibility of technical operations while adhering to the highest standards of safety, quality, and project timelines. This role operates within the framework of major energy projects, requiring a deep understanding of the marine environment and advanced survey technologies.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead and direct the hydrographic engineering team, including task planning, allocation, and performance supervision.
- Develop and review work plans and methodologies for marine surveys, ensuring compliance with international specifications and local requirements.
- Manage and analyze hydrographic and geophysical data, preparing comprehensive technical reports.
- Coordinate with other project departments, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of activities.
- Evaluate, select, and develop modern technologies and equipment used in survey operations.
- Ensure the strict application of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols in all field and office operations.
- Manage budgets and resources related to survey activities and contribute to cost estimates for new projects.
- Provide technical support and expert consultancy throughout the project lifecycle, from initial design to delivery.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Hydrography, Geomatics, Civil, or a related field). A Master’s degree will be a distinct advantage.
- A recognized professional certification in Hydrographic Surveying (e.g., FIG/IHO/ICA Category "A") is highly desirable.
- A minimum of 10 years of practical experience in hydrographic and geophysical surveying, with a focus on offshore energy projects (oil & gas, renewables, submarine cables, etc.).
- Proven experience of at least 5 years in a leadership or supervisory role, with the ability to manage a multicultural team.
- In-depth knowledge of survey systems (MBES, SBES, SBP, positioning systems), data processing, and specialized software (such as Hypack, QPS, EIVA, or similar).
- Strong understanding of international standards (IMO, IHO) and local regulatory requirements in the Gulf region.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, in English (mandatory) and Arabic (preferred).
- Ability to work under pressure and make decisive judgments in complex operational environments.
