IUCN Leaders Forum Changemakers: Empowering Young Innovators for Global Nature Goals
Introduction
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is actively seeking the next generation of young innovators who are dedicated to advancing global goals for nature. Through the IUCN Leaders Forum Changemakers program, young leaders and innovators from around the world are given a platform to showcase and implement their innovative nature conservation and biodiversity action projects. This article provides an overview of the program, its benefits, eligibility criteria, and the application process.
IUCN Leaders Forum Changemakers Program
The IUCN Leaders Forum Changemakers program aims to connect young leaders and innovators who are actively engaged in designing or implementing groundbreaking projects related to nature conservation and biodiversity. These selected young changemakers will have the unique opportunity to participate in the IUCN Leaders Forum, which will take place in Geneva in October 2023. During this event, they will collaborate with global leaders to promote nature-positive solutions and develop concrete actions for the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework goals at various levels.

The selected IUCN Leaders Forum Changemakers will enjoy several benefits, including:
- Delegate access to the IUCN Leaders Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, from 11 to 13 October 2023.

- Hotel accommodation in Geneva from 10 to 14 October 2023.
- Round-trip travel expenses to Geneva, Switzerland.

Requirments:
Who Should Apply?
Applicants should meet the following criteria to be considered as IUCN Leaders Forum Changemakers:
- Aged between 18 and 35.
- Demonstrated leadership and innovation in the fields of nature conservation, biodiversity, climate change, and sustainable development.
- Currently working on an innovative project that contributes to the goals and targets outlined in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
- Encouraged to apply are candidates whose projects promote equity, inclusivity, intergenerational collaboration, and adopt a human rights-based approach.
The IUCN aims to assemble a diverse group of global changemakers, with a particular emphasis on encouraging youth from the Global South, minority groups, indigenous peoples, local communities, and young female leaders and innovators.
Primary Objectives of the IUCN Leaders Forum 2023
- Facilitating dialogue and building trust among influential leaders from different sectors to find innovative, multi-stakeholder solutions to conservation and biodiversity challenges.
- Providing a safe space for global leaders to discuss current and emerging environmental issues, track progress, and evaluate efforts toward achieving the 2030 targets and beyond.
- Creating networking opportunities for young changemakers to connect with potential collaborators from the public and private sectors, fostering the development of their environmental projects.
Application Process
The selection of IUCN Leaders Forum Changemakers will be done by IUCN from a shortlist compiled by One Young World. Interested individuals should complete the application form linked below to be considered for One Young World's shortlist.
