Job Description and Key Responsibilities

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be stationed either on a project site or within the main office, bearing responsibility for the financial and administrative aspects of construction and engineering projects. Core duties include:

  • Cost Management: Preparing and analyzing initial project cost estimates, monitoring budgets throughout the project lifecycle, and generating regular cost reports.
  • Quantity Take-off and Documentation: Preparing accurate Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for contracts and procurement, and measuring work done on-site.
  • Contract Administration: Overseeing all financial aspects of contracts, including evaluating contractor payment applications, preparing and assessing contract variations, and managing claims.
  • Procurement Procedures: Assisting in the contractor and supplier selection process, preparing tender documents, and analyzing technical and commercial submissions.
  • Estimating and Pricing: Estimating project costs at various stages and pricing new work items.
  • Financial Risk Management: Identifying and assessing potential financial risks within the project and proposing mitigation measures.
  • Coordination and Teamwork: Working closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure financial efficiency.
  • Compliance: Ensuring adherence to contract conditions, local regulations, and international standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, or a related field. A Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., MRICS, CIOB) would be a distinct advantage.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 8 to 10 years of proven experience in quantity surveying, with a solid background in major projects (e.g., infrastructure, buildings, energy, or oil & gas). Previous experience in the Middle East, particularly in Oman, is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in quantity surveying and cost management software such as CostX, Candy, CATO, or similar. Good knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially advanced Excel).
  • Contract Knowledge: In-depth understanding of international standard forms of contract, particularly FIDIC.
  • Personal Skills: Excellent communication and negotiation skills, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, high accuracy and attention to detail, and strong analytical capabilities.
  • Language: Full professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic will be a significant advantage.
